Meet Lucie, a talented and humble surfer girl with a beautiful energy who hails from our home town in Cornwall. We've been lucky enough to work with Lucie for a while now, and you'll regularly see her styling our dresses, lending a hand at our festival stand and gracing our Instagram

Tell us a little about you. Where are you based and what do you do?

I’m based in the surf town of Newquay, on the north coast of Cornwall. I am a professional model, sponsored free surfer, ISA qualified surf instructor and surf judge. I also work as an ambassador for The Wave Project, which is an organisation that helps people with mental illnesses by teaching them how to surf.

Describe your typical day…

At the moment I don't really have a "typical day" as my work varies so much. When I'm modelling I start relatively early in the morning, and it normally takes up my whole day. If I have a few days off then I'll try and fit in as much as possible. I usually start with early morning training, then back home to check the surf, and if it looks good I’ll jump in straight away. When there's no surf I catch up on emails, make healthy food, meet up with friends and take my dogs out for a lovely long walk. In the evenings I enjoy chilling out with my family and catching up on what's been happening whilst I've been away.

Where is the best place you've travelled to and why?

I'm completely in love with the canaries! Fuerteventura is my favourite island, because it’s so close (just under 4 hours on the plane) has good waves, great weather, plus I have some lovely friends that live there which makes it feel like a second home. I would like to start changing it up though and visit some different places with a variety of waves, and to experience new cultures.

If you could Sailaway to anywhere, where would it be?

I would love to Sailaway to a place with many dogs I could cuddle, and perfect waves where the sun is shining. Haha, the dream!

Do you have a particular Sailaway favourite from the current collection?

Yes! But it is very hard to choose...  Working with Sailaway means I’m lucky enough to try on every single dress, which makes it extremely hard to pick a favourite as they all have something special about them when you put them on. But I have to say when I first put the Ava (Tropics) dress on, I instantly feel in love with it. The design is so beautiful to wear over a bikini on the beach, or out in the evening — it never looks out of place. It also folds up into a neat, little roll which makes it ideal for travelling.

What does being part of Sailaway mean to you?

Being part of the Sailaway team is wonderful. The owner Holly is amazing, she is incredibly talented and just the easiest person to work with. I also enjoy working with Sailaway’s main photographer Adj as he is hilarious on the photo shoots. With festival season now well underway I have had an exciting opportunity to work on a Sailaway stand, which is great as I get to see another side of the business and meet all of Sailaway’s beautiful customers. It’s rewarding to see the ladies loving the new designs and feeling the whole feminine vibe that oozes from Sailaway’s dresses. Another highlight has been meeting and collaborating with the amazing Melon Made headwear which goes with the dresses so perfectly. I can’t wait for more events this summer, we have some talented people that are a lot of fun to be around! Sailaway is one big family.
