Sailaway’s Favourite Christmas Markets Around the World
At Sailaway, nothing gets us more excited than a market jam packed with lovingly created goodies from small brands. Whether its hand crafted ceramics, bespoke works of art, artisan food or vintage finds. Sailaway started out as a market stall, so every time Christmas comes around, it feels as if we’re going back our roots. We take great pleasure in popping up shop and loading the rails with our dresses, ready to share with you lovely bunch. And so, as Christmas looms around the corner, we’ve rounded up a few of our favourite markets from across the world to get you inspired and hopefully in the festive spirit…
Cologne, Germany
The city of Cologne is dripping in rich heritage and wonderful architecture, making it a hot spot for long weekends where you can soak up the culture and shop to your hearts content. The city is home to a magnificent cathedral where the ‘Am Dom’ market is situated, directly in the square out front. There you’ll find pretty wooden huts and the iconic Christmas tree which glistens overhead.

Bath, UK
The Sailaway team have a long love affair with the city of Bath, and each year it becomes even more magical when the spectacular Christmas market is in full swing. Nothing beats mooching among the stalls with a mulled wine warming up those frosty fingers. Shoppers can expect to find local artwork, handmade ornaments, bespoke jewellery among other treasures.

Bondi, Sydney, Australia
This bohemian market perched on Bondi’s beachfront offers Christmas shopping with a twist. Swap woollen gloves for suncream when browsing the best of Bondi’s craft goods. Sailaway is proudly there each Sunday during the run up to Christmas, along with other up-and-coming designers, handmade jewellery brands, retro-chic furniture and vinyl records galore. Come and find us at this colourful Christmas market sat on Australia’s most iconic beach.

Prague, Czech Republic
A city close to Sailaway’s heart, Prague needs little introduction, especially when it comes to the famous Christmas market. With a unique ambiance like no other, Prague’s market (which is divided between Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square) offers a magical time for families and lovers alike. Festive goers will also be spoiled for choice with local cuisine such as Klobása, a type of Czech sausage, which goes down wonderfully with a pint (or two) of Pilsner Urquell.

Copenhagen, Denmark
A mecca for anyone with an ounce of style, Copenhagen’s Christmas market at Tivoli Gardens will have you drooling over the hand crafted goods and delicious Danish pastries alike. Complete with a fairytale fairground and authentic food stalls galore, Copenhagen’s Christmas market is a true winter wonderland waiting to be explored. Time your visit right and experience the spectacular firework displays which are held in the gardens on the 25th, 26th and 31st of December.

Padstow, Cornwall, UK
This quaint Cornish town holds a very special place in Sailaway’s heart, as it’s where we first started out many moons ago. Situated along the pretty harbour-side, Padstow Christmas market is not only a shopping experience, but a full-on festival extravaganza which takes place for a few days each year. Expect to find local artwork, cosy knitwear, scrumptious artisan produce including mince pies aplenty.
